Unlike many of the other vacuums on the market which are made of cheap plastic and designed to last only a couple of years, this vacuum is very well engineered and put together. They use much better polymers in their parts and the whole thing is clearly well built. It’s more expensive than others but worth every penny. I actually like vacuuming now! It’s sooooo quiet compared to others I’ve heard and the sound it does make is much more pleasing that the high pitched noise usually heard. What an improvement from the $500 Electrolux we used to have. I can actually hear the stereo playing now when I work.
One of the best features of this vac is the head for hard floors. It has a ball joint on it that allows you to control the head as if it were your own hand at the end of the wand. You’ve really got to try it to believe it. Before you shell out money for any other vac, you’ve got to make it to a dealer and give it a try. I walked into the dealer thinking I wanted a Riccar or a Sebo or a Dyson, or maybe one of the better Hoovers, but was totally convinced after just 5 minutes with the Miele.
I negociated with a local dealer and was able to get the larger carpet head instead of the smaller one that usually comes with this model for the same price ($800). Some people may prefer the smaller head to get into smaller spaces, but I liked the bigger one as it’s more substancial and covers more area in one pass.

We bought this vacuum based on the good reviews but I just had to write another one after using it. When I started using the vacuum I thought the “embeded dirtfinder technology” was the biggest gimmick there was. After using the vacuum for a few minutes I realized that it actually works. There two lights (one red and one green) on the lower left corner of the vacuum and they switch from red to green when the carpet is actually clean. I thought to myself “yeah right” but when using it, the light stayed red for a long time in high traffic areas of my house but in the spare bedroom where no one ever walks it was green almost right away. I purchased the Dyson DC14 because I had seen what a dramatic cleaning it did on my mom’s carpets. It arrived quickly, was a snap to put together, and comes with lots of attachments. I have bassets that really shed, this vacuum picks it all up, and quickly! It has sucked up stuff I had no idea was in my carpet, I’m very impressed. It is easy to dump, doesn’t clog, and works well on my vinyl and laminate floors, as well as my carpets and rugs. It doesn’t suck up throw rugs like my last vacuum did. It does have a harder time with the shag throw rugs, and does have a tendency to grab them. I turn the beater bar off and it solves the problem, it doesn’t collect as much stuff, but freshens them up. The whole point in buying a Roomba is to save time. Any time you save is quickly lost by the amount of time spent cleaning the brushes or walking around the house to see where the Roomba stopped due to the battery running out without even making an attempt to dock with the charger. The Roomba doesn’t seem to follow any sort of pattern when cleaning. During every cycle, it will go over one area multiple times while completely ignoring other areas. I also find that the Roomba is just tall enough to get stuck under our sectional and the dresser in the bedroom. In fact, just today I had to free the trapped Roomba from the exact same spot three times.
The actual vacuuming that it does do is fairly ineffective on anything other than hair or loose surface dirt. For a good, deep vacuum you’ll still have to break out your upright.

My husband and I bought this vacuum cleaner last year after yet another vacuum cleaner lost its suction. It picks up everything, including a tremendous amount of cat hair from our carpets. We’ve never had a vacuum cleaner that worked so well. We used to replace our vacuum cleaners once a year but the Dyson is still running as well as when we bought it, and of course, it has a 5 year warranty, which we haven’t had to use yet.

After reading all the reviews I was a little apprehensive. This vacuum seemed to have problems with dying soon after buying. I decided to chance it anyway.
It seems as though problems had occurred when it was left plugged in after use, so I have always unplugged it.
This is the most amazing vacuum. I have always thought I had a very clean home, always take shoes off in house etc. The first time I used it I had to empty the canister three times on just one small carpet. It practically pulls itself along, and I have finally been able to vacuum under my bed.

It may be useful to realize that many people who LOVE their Roomba — myself included — mean we actually have AFFECTION for our Roomba: less than a pet or child, but probably more than a houseplant. We all wanted a robot just like the Jetsons had, and now we have one. When it does something I seldom do; say, vaccuum under the guestroom bed, I practically laugh with delight. Plus it is great fun to introduce to the pets — in our case, two dogs and two perpetually shedding cats.
So there– I’ve admitted my unusual bonding with my Roomba.
Maybe I’ll get tired of pushing the button twice a day, but so far my floors are cleaner than ever. Before Roomba, I vacuumed once a week and swept the hardwood every couple of days. Now I run the Roomba twice a day — once when I get up in the morning, and then before I leave for work about 3 hours later, which is apparently enough time for it to clean, redock, charge, and be ready to go again when I walk out the door.
When this little bundle of joy first arrived, I tried, as an experiment, running it over and over in my (large) master bedroom to see how many runs it would continue to pick up dirt. Five runs later (on the same day), it was still picking up a considerable amount. Perhaps that means the Roomba does not clean as well as I hoped, or perhaps my bedroom is just too large for it to finish in one run, but the carpet, (which, again, I normally vacuumed once per week),looked cleaner than usual after the fifth run. And I have no doubt the Roomba cleaned under the bed better than I ever did.
Twice I’ve come home and had to go looking for it. This was its own adventure. Either it could not find the docking station, or perhaps my little Boston Terrier, who was under the dining room table with her ears back looking very guilty, knows what happened. In fact, one time the compartment that you empty the dirt from was in a separate place, and since I don’t see any other reviewers who have had that problem, I’m guessing Nina might know something about that. But it seems none the worse for wear, except for a couple of teeth marks. You will not regret this purchase.
